Throw Ratio and Overhead Mounting Reality
A low throw ratio allows you to position the projector close to the screen, keeping shadows from cast arms out of the image beam. However, extremely short-throw models require precise alignment and offer almost zero mechanical lens shift. If your wall or ceiling is slightly out of plumb, dialling in a square image takes patience and custom shim plates.
Real Brightness Versus Spec Sheet Numbers
Manufacturer lumen ratings are usually measured under ideal test conditions that rarely match a normal room with soft ambient light. In practice, a projector rated for 3,000 lumens with accurate color processing yielded a far sharper picture than a cheaper unit claiming 4,000 lumens. High contrast matters more than raw output when projecting onto textured impact screens.
Why I Changed My Mind on Resolution
I initially assumed a 4K resolution projector was mandatory for a crisp display at close viewing distances. After side-by-side comparisons, I found that a high-contrast 1080p picture with low input lag provided a smoother experience for high-speed tracking software. I ended up keeping the 1080p model and putting the leftover budget toward better room lighting.
